William R. Grant, 88, formerly of Main St., passed away Monday evening, April 12, 2021 at St. Mary’s Hospital, Huntington, WV.  He had moved to West Virginia in 2019 to be closer to his daughter.

Born on November 20, 1932 in Port Henry, he was the son of the late William J. and Violet M. (Krakes) Grant.  He graduated from Port Henry High School.  Following his graduation, Bill enlisted in the United States Air Force where he proudly served his country for 20 years.  He earned the Air Force Good Conduct Medal with 2 bronze oak leaf clusters, the Air Force Longevity Service award with 4 bronze oak leaf clusters, the National Defense Service Medal with 1 bronze service star prior to his retirement from the Air Force on September 30, 1972.

He married the love of his life, Anna T. Warren in 1956 in Biloxi, Mississippi.  Anna died on May 31, 2016 following 60 wonderful years of marriage.

Upon his return from the service, Bill spent many years working as a tailor at Anderson Little in Aviation Mall.   It was a skill that he learned from his grandfather and had passed on to his wife and his daughter.

Bill had a passion for fishing.  He also enjoyed word puzzle, his dog, “Buddy”, and visiting with his friends and neighbors at the Luzerne meal site.  He was a dedicated member of the William J. Varney American Legion Post 862, Lake Luzerne, holding many positions within the organization including Post Commander, treasurer, Warren County Commander and Department and National Membership Chairman for the 4th District.  He was a devoted family man and will be remembered as a loving husband, wonderful father and grandfather.  He loved God, his family, his flag and his country.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Anna Grant; a brother, Victor Grant.

Survivors include his children: Bernadette (Stephen) Snell of Culloden, WV, David Grant of Greenville, Michael (Lisa) Grant of Diamond Point; his grandchildren: Rachel Young, Jeffrey Snell, Chanel Grant, Violet Grant, Douglas Lanfear, and Joshua Grant; his brothers Gary (Pat) Grant, Malta, Robert (Barbara) Grant (Hadley-Luzerne) and Rudy (David) Grant Schenectady, his in-laws in Alabama;  great grandchildren April, Kyleigh, Cheyene, Drew, Robert, Caydance, Alli, Crews and Leo , and many loving nieces and nephews.

Friends may call from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. Saturday, April 17, 2021 at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.  Face coverings must be worn inside the funeral home and NYS capacity limits will be respected.

Funeral services will be conducted immediately following the visitation at 2 p.m. at the funeral home.

Burial with military honors will be in Holy Infancy Cemetery, Lake Luzerne.
