Vincent S. Nevins the middle child of Vincent and Paula Nevins born on August 5, 1968
passed peacefully with his family by his side, March 15, 2025 at Albany Medical Center due to
complications from the flu.
Vincent as a young boy loved fishing, as he got older he took his family fishing first at the
family camp in South Pond, then to Lewey Lake, and our second home in the fall, camping and
fishing at the Salmon River where we found friends for a lifetime. A few years ago Vincent found
another hobby which was hunting, something he obsessed about months before the season and
many months following the season. Vincent loved to fix anything with a motor he also loved
anything that was loud or fast. As he became physically unable to do the previous things we
together found we loved to create antique collections. We would be the first at an estate sale to
find the treasure he was looking for, sometimes sleeping in our vehicle. We began selling
antiques throughout NY State and Brimfield, where we found more friends that loved the same
things we did.
Vincent’s biggest accomplishment was his family which was the center of everything he
did, whether it was working on the land, taking care of his parents, sister, or in-laws, love and
commitment shown through. He brought his children Megan, Shawn, and Alex up the same way.
Teaching manners, morals, love, relationships, or a good work ethic was very important to him,
he taught his children how to be a better person. His siblings Cindy and Laura were as
important to him caring and loving them, helping each other, they all shared a special bond.
Vincent and Debbie started dating in the 9th grade and have been married for over 35
years. They did everything together and often blurted out something that the other one was
thinking. Together they created a loving and caring home that their children still consider home.
Vincent graduated from Johnsburg Central School and SAEC for a certification to be a
mechanic in 1988. He won first place in many competitions through SAEC. Throughout his teen
years he worked for the Johnsburg HighWay Department during school vacations until 1998. He
then went out to work on his own. He loved running equipment and logging. He had the greatest
gift with working for himself which was the ability to get his kids on and off the bus, hearing
about their day, and spending time with them which included on a few occasions scaring them
with the chainsaw, or letting them run the skidder almost into the barn, teaching us to drive(even
if we ran a few red lights or bumped into a few practice cars in the yard), donuts with the four
wheeler (which always occurred when mom hung out the laundry), and many more moments
that couldn’t all possibly be listed. Vincent last worked at Gore Mountain as a mechanic,
working on fixing equipment and creating and fabricating equipment used on other mountains
as well. An injury in 2015 and 2018 at the mountain caused him to have to retire early,
something he fought against right up to his passing.
He is survived by his wife of 35 years, Deborah (Dunkley) Nevins, daughter Megan Marie
and her husband, our adopted son Alex Mitchell, and our son, Shawn Paul, his grandson Hunter
Mitchell, only 7 months old was the light of his life, he brought a smile to his face and
encouraged a song and dance whenever near. His sisters Cindy Lou and Laura and Jim
Colson. He is also survived by his Aunt Arlene and Uncle Willy, Aunt Jane and Uncle Lowell,
sister in law: Amy (Bruce) Cleveland, brother in law Sam (Jennifer) Dunkley, several nieces,
nephews, and cousins. His furry friends; Bandit (Doodle) and Sameow L. Jackson (Mr. Tail)
were always by his side and gave him much comfort when his pain was so intolerable.
Predeceased him are his parents; Paula and Vincent Nevins, grandparents; Dan and
Lelah Nevins, Paul and Rosetta Mosher, in-laws; Eugene and Alice Dunkley, his brother in-law;
Robert Ball and his special fur friends Nikki, Kemo, and Gizmo (Dirty Steve).
The family would like to thank all who gave Debbie and Laura the ability to be by
Vincent’s side the last few weeks and those that helped our children so they could be with him
as much as possible.
The service will be at Sodom Community Church March 29, 2025, visitation will be at
12:00, the memorial service will be at 1:00p.m.
Vincent never understood why people chose the way they were, be kind, considerate,
love one another, and the world would be a better place.
