Stephen D. Blakely, Sr., 67, of Hyland Drive, passed away, Tuesday evening, January 16, 2018 at Glens Falls Hospital.
Born on May 23, 1950 in Rutland, VT, he was the son of the late Edmund Charles and Vivian (Drew) Blakely. He was a graduate of Glens Falls High School.
On June 6, 1970 he married his high school sweetheart, Christine Anthony, at St. Michael's Church in South Glens Falls.
Stephen had worked for Ruggles Construction in Glens Falls for many years. When Mr. Ruggles was ready to retire, he continued on with the company as Blakely Construction. He was a talented builder and was as comfortable building multimillion dollar Adirondack Great Camps as he was building small coffee tables for his grandson's apartment in New York.
He enjoyed playing his guitar and singing. Stephen was happiest when surrounded by his loving family. He cherished the time he spent with them. He especially loved visiting various beaches with them. He was also known to make a remarkable snow slide for his grandchildren.
Survivors include his loving wife of 47 years, Christine Blakely; their children, Stephen (Penny) Blakely of Cumming, GA, Jamey (Marcia) Blakely of Shrewsbury, MA, Sarah (Evan) Whitefield of Glenville, Emily (Harrison Redfield) of Clifton Park; eight grandchildren, Stephen Blakely, Nicholas Blakely, Olivia Blakely, Ada Blakely, Mia Blakely, Brian Blakely, Charlotte Blakely and Katie Whitefield; one sister, Linda (Doug) Fleck of Carlisle, PA; one brother, Robert Blakely of Anaheim, CA; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
