Sally B. Jones, 95, of Matamoras, PA, passed away peacefully on
November 12, 2024, surrounded by her loving family. Born in Chicago,
Ill. , on December 11, 1928, Sally’s vibrant spirit, warm heart and
genuine kindness endeared her to all who knew her. Sally met her
future husband, Earl, at Wilmington College in Ohio, and they shared 54
wonderful years of marriage until Earl’s passing in 2005.
A devoted educator, Sally taught third and fourth grades for many
years before retiring to their lake home in Corinth, NY. After retiring,
she continued to nurture young minds as a substitute teacher in local
high schools. Sally and Earl’s life together took them across the
Midwest and East Coast, where her kindness and zest for life made a
lasting impact on every community they joined.
Sally had a great love for travel, exploring destinations across the U.S., Canada, and abroad, often
sharing these adventures with her sister Ada and brother-in-law Dick. Throughout her life, Sally was
actively involved in her church and several organizations, including the Lions/Lionesses Club, the Red
Hat Society, and the American Association of the University Women (AAUW).
Her devotion to her family was her greatest joy. In her later years, Sally moved to Rockville, MD and
then to PA to be closer to her daughters and their families. She found immense fulfillment and
happiness in being an active part of her grandchildren’s and great-grandchildren’s lives, cherishing every
moment shared with them.
Sally is survived by her sister Ada, her children Larry, Janice and Gail. 7 grandchildren: Eric, Allison,
LeeAnne, Kelli, Julia, Will and Oksana; and nine great-grandchildren: Eva, Conner, Kolton, Adeline,
Teegan, Olivia, Emma, Kennedy and Easton. She is also lovingly remembered by her cherished nephews,
Curtis Diedrich and Frederick Diedrich as well as her great-nephews Alex, Will, Sam and Nate.
Sally’s family and friends feel profoundly blessed to have had her in their lives for so many years. Her
warm smile, gentle presence, and loving nature will be deeply missed but forever cherished by all who
knew her and her legacy of kindness and compassion will continue to inspire those who carry her
memory in their hearts.
A memorial service to celebrate Sally’s life will be held on Friday, December 13, at 11:00 am at St.
Mary’s Episcopal Church in Lake Luzerne, NY. In lieu of flowers, donations can be made in Sally’s honor
to the Hadley-Luzerne Lions Club Scholarship Fund, P.O. Box 158, Lake Luzerne, NY. 12846 or to St.
