Royce E. Wells, 87, formerly of Cedar River Road, passed away Thursday evening, March 15, 2018, with his family at his side at the Fort Hudson Nursing Center, Ft. Edward, NY.
Born on January 21, 1931 in Ticonderoga, he was the son of the late Jesse A. and Myrtle (Clark) Wells.
Royce married the love of his life, Frances M. McCane on September 3, 1950 at the First Baptist Church of Indian Lake and they settled in the home he built in Jonesville , NY.
He was an accomplished carpenter and along with his brother Doug, owned Wells Bros. Builders. After raising their daughters, he and Fran moved back to Indian Lake to operate McCane's Cabins on Cedar River Road until their retirement.
Royce enjoyed hunting (as a Licensed Guide), playing golf and traveling with Fran. His favorite spot of all was Cedar River. He was a true gentleman - kind, honest and generous.
He was a member of the First Baptist Church of Indian Lake as a Trustee, Cedar River Golf Course, Wakely Lodge and the Cedar Valley Club. He had a long time association with the Clifton Park Center Baptist Church.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Douglas Wells. Survivors include his loving wife of 67 years, Frances; two daughters: Cathy (Martin) Gray of West Fort Ann; Joanne (Mark) Russ of Glenmont; two grandsons whom he adored: Gregory Russ and Alexander Russ; a sister-in-law: Ronda Wells of Indian Lake; a brother-in-law George (Diane) McCane of Indian Lake; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call from 1-2 p.m. Saturday, March 24, 2018 at the First Baptist Church of Indian Lake Rt. 30. Funeral services will immediately follow at 2 p.m. at the Church.
Contributions in Royce's memory may be directed to the First Baptist Church of Indian Lake.
