Ronald R. Mulson, Sr. – MSgt USAF (Ret.)

September 20, 1934 – September 26, 2024

Ron Mulson, the loving husband, father, grandfather, great grandfather, and friend to many passed away on September 26, 2024, just days after celebrating his 90th birthday with his family and friends.

Ron was born in Troy, NY to Norma (Goyer) and Howard Mulson in 1934.  Just two years later, his father died, and his mother moved back to her parent’s farm where Ron enjoyed the love of grandparents, aunts, uncles, and all the glory of nature on the farm.

Ron attended Averill Park High School before joining the Army National Guard, serving in the 27th Armored Division from 1952 to 1964. He then established Mulson’s Garage in Wynantskill, NY, a full-service gas station.  Mulson’s Garage today is a thriving business that up until two days before he passed away, Ron was actively involved in.  His garage became known for its innovative repairs and vehicle and truck restoration.  For many years Ron’s garage maintained school buses in the Wynantskill school district as well as many private schools in the area.  Ron’s passion for all things that go fast led him to building and racing his own cars at Lebanon Valley, Fonda Fultonville, Warrensburg and as far north as the Canadian provinces.  Ron later sponsored other drivers at Lebanon Valley.  His passion for flying beckoned and that led Ron getting his pilot’s license.

In 1980 Ron rejoined military service with the 109th Air National Guard, served during Operation Desert Storm and retired in 1991 after 25 years of service.  He loved flying on C-130’s to Greenland and did that as often as possible.  There he made life-long friendships with many people from Denmark, two of whom surprised Ron at his 90th birthday party.

Ron married Loretta Kiernan (nee Brady) in 1998 and together they began a journey of love and travel.  Ron was a hunter most of his life and together they traveled to Africa, South Africa, South America, Europe, Greece, Turkey, and New Zealand to either hunt or tour new horizons.  The many trips to Africa and South Africa enabled Ron to achieve the very prestigious award from the Safari Club International “African Tiny Ten”.  These are ten different pygmy antelopes that are elusive and as fast as lightning.  In his years of hunting, Ron was a member of the Mark20 Hunting Club, the Henrick Hunting Club, Dunham’s Bay Fish and Game Club and the Safari Club International.  Ron was a proud life-long member of the NRA, the Lake Luzerne American Legion and the Ravens, which was a group that had landed on the icecap in Greenland in C-130’s.

Ron was predeceased by his son Tom (Madeline) Mulson, who tragically died in 2022.

He is survived by his wife, soulmate and kindred spirit, Loretta of Lake Luzerne; his son, Ronald Jr. “Spike” (Linda) Mulson of Nantucket, MA and Mayfield, NY; his daughter Kara (Bruce) Haas-Rosenthal of Clifton Park; daughter, Kristie (Mark) Muscara of Newtown, PA; his extended and blended family including Meghan Cook, Dennis Kiernan, Patrick Kiernan, Nora (Gary) Wilder and Kathryn Kiernan.  Ron also leaves behind his cherished grandchildren, great grandchildren, cousins, and countless friends.

Ronald R. Mulson will be laid to rest with military honors at 9:30 a.m Monday, October 14, 2024, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery.

Ron will be remembered for his kindness and generous gifts of love to his family, to his community and to his country.
