Richard “Richie” Scotti, age 56, passed away at Saratoga Hospital following a brief illness on the evening of May 22, 2025. He was born on November 28, 1968, in Queens, NY, to Barbara Scotti.
Richie resided at the Spier Falls IRA for 20 years before relocating to Corinth IRA in 2022, where he was currently living.
Prior to this, he resided at the Wilton Developmental Center, where he formed a long-standing friendship with Betty White, who became his guardian. Betty diligently advocated on his behalf and for others, including his best friend Brian, who has since passed away. In addition to Betty, his survivors include his peers and staff from the OPWDD community.
Richie was a petite individual with a vibrant personality and occasionally a mischievous sense of humor. He had a charming smile that often brightened the environment. Richard enjoyed listening to music, exploring sensory objects, and engaging in social activities with his housemates and staff. He took pleasure in playing tug-of-war and catch with staff, often amusingly requesting staff to bend over to retrieve the ball before playfully discarding it again. He especially enjoyed staff reading to him with expressive voices to depict different characters. Richard also appreciated outdoor time when the weather was favorable and enjoyed van rides, soaking in the sunshine.
He participated in Adirondack Day Habilitation, where he enjoyed music therapy, sensory activities, and listening to music, until his retirement in 2020.
A graveside service for Richard will be held at 10 a.m. Friday, May 30, 2025 at the Corinth Rural Cemetery, located on Route 9N in Corinth.
