Lake Luzerne –
Neil E. Sesselman passed from this world to the next on Friday, July 6 following a short illness.
He was born on January 9, 1942 to the late William and Elizabeth(O’Brien) Sesselman in Corinth, New York and was a lifelong resident of the Corinth and Lake Luzerne area.
A graduate of Corinth High School, Neil went on to Plattsburg State College where he excelled in athletics. A two-sport athlete, he earned national recognition as a college baseball player and was named an All American for his skills as a batter and a second baseman, an honor reserved for the top players in the country.
He married Beverly L. Russ on December 21, 1968 at Corinth Wesleyan Church.
Neil was a respected teacher at Hadley Luzerne Central Schools for thirty-two years, first as a fifth-grade classroom teacher and later as a middle school math teacher. The professional relationships he forged there became friendships that he enjoyed for all of his life.
In 2003, he was inducted into SUNY Plattsburg’s Cardinal Sports Hall of Fame, an event he attended with his family. He was also an accomplished bowler and hundreds of kids knew him as their Little League coach.
Neil was an accomplished outdoorsman who loved hunting and fishing. A member of the Fox Hill Sportsman Club, he loved going to camp in Stony Creek and he enjoyed working in his vegetable garden. He knew the ways of the woods and passed that knowledge to his sons and to his stepson.
An unassuming and modest man, he never spoke badly of others and he contributed regularly to causes he believed in, especially to St. Jude’s Children’s Hospital and to veterans’ organizations. He loved his family and took particular joy in his youngest grandchildren; Cole, Tom, Luke, Nick and Kate.
In addition to his parents, two brothers, Joseph Sesselman and Robert Sesselman, passed before him.
Neil is survived by his wife of nearly fifty years, Beverly; sons Brian Sessleman of Lake Luzerne and Daniel (Jamie) Sesselman of Thurman; stepchildren Rosemarie (Roderick) Gardner of Lake Luzerne, Debra (Frank) MacDonald of Katy, Texas, Terrie Sanders of Bakers Mills, John Sanders of Hadley, and Patricia Sanders of Glens Falls; sisters Mary (Russ) MacDougall of Corinth and Julie (Jeff) Kimpton of Michigan; two sisters-in-law, Mary Sessleman of Burnt Hills and Vicky Sesselman of South Glens Falls; fourteen grandchildren, ten great grandchildren, and many many nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday from 11 a.m. to 1 p.m. at Brewer Funeral Home, 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.
A funeral mass will be celebrated at 1:30 p.m. Tuesday at Holy Mother and Child, Lake Luzerne with Rev. Ken Swain officiating.
