Nancy L. Pierson, born in Carbondale, IL on August 10, 1939, passed away November 24, 2022, under the care of her loving family at her home in Blue Mountain Lake, NY. Nancy graduated from Southern Illinois University with a bachelors’ degree in Physical Education and held employment at West Point Military Academy and then continued on at St. Mary’s School in Cortland, NY until her son was born and she became a full time stay at home mom – her most beloved job.
Nancy married the love of her life, Joe K. Pierson on September 23, 1960, where shortly thereafter they began their adventurous life together as they moved away from their homes in southern Illinois and made their way to New York. After many years living in central New York, Joe, Nancy and their two children moved to the Adirondack Mountains in 1985, which is where she called home.
Her love of art, education, nature, family, and friends led her to a life-long appreciation and passion for painting, drawing, carving, building rustic furniture. She loved to fish, trap, go camping with her family and loved her “pretty little trees.” The day of her passing, she was watching the ice crystals glisten on the trees and felt at peace.
She is predeceased by her loving husband, Joe, who passed October 29, 1999, her mother and father Jewel & LV Steckenrider, her brother Louis (Buck) Steckenrider, mother-in-law, Margaret Pierson, brother-in-law, Robert (Betty) Pierson, sister-in-law, Carolyn (Robert) Chastain, and very special friend Sherry Grimm.
She is survived by her son Lance (Lizette) Pierson, and her daughter, Michelle Hutchins (Dale Roberts). Her grandchildren, Stephanie Darling, Amber (Craig) Wamback, Melanie (Travis) Santelli, Kelsey Pierson (Billy Walters), Arista Pierson, Bryce Hutchins and Garrett Hutchins. Great grandchildren, Ryleigh, Emmeleigh and Brynleigh Northrup and Olivia Wamback. Her siblings Troy Steckenrider (Annette Murphy) and Judy (Randy) Lynn, as well as several nieces, nephews, cousins and special friends – all of whom will miss her dearly.
Calling hours will take place from 1:00 – 4:00, Sunday, December 4, 2022 at Miller Funeral Home, 6357 State Route 30, Indian Lake.
