BINGHAMTON - Merilyn F. (Flynn) Schrader, 87, passed peacefully into the loving arms of her Lord on Thursday November 30, 2023. Born September 6, 1936 in Long Lake, New York. Born blue and not breathing she was assumed to be still-born, and was placed in the kitchen sink. Her mother’s friend, thought she saw the little baby take a breath, pulled her from the sink and performed CPR to revive her.
Residing in Indian Lake, New York until her mar- riage to Anthony Schrader in 1968.
After marriage, the couple would reside in Bainbridge, New York. Merilyn lived a beautiful, loving, and God-centered life. Merilyn expressed her love for others by mailing heart felt cards for all occasions.
After becoming a grandmother, Merilyn’s name quickly became “Nema”, coined by her granddaughter Alicia. It wasn’t long until she was “Nema” to everyone, family and friends alike. Nema was known for her kisses and tight hugs, her quick and spunky wit, her love of Coca Cola and Hershey kisses, singing her gospel hymns on Sundays, and reading her Bible, where she kept all of her sentimental treasures over the years.
Merilyn is survived by her daughter Susan Schrader Babcock; grand daughter, Alicia Schrader; grandson, Jacob Hawk and his wife, Ellen; and three great grandchildren, Penelope Rose, Jacob James, and Raphael John Gerard Hawk.
Also survived by siblings, Catherine (Daniel) Brennan, Eileen Gear, Patty Sweet (sister-in-law) and several loving nieces and nephews.
Merilyn was predeceased by her husband, Anthony, her parents James Flynn and Evangeline (Flynn) Glynn, her brother Lee Flynn and his wife Barbara , brother, Michael Glynn, and her sister Mary and husband James Slocum, Richard Gear (brother-in-law), Shawn Flynn (nephew), and Dian Merilyn Roberts (niece).
A special thank you to those at Vestal Park Rehabilitation and Nursing Center involved with the tender care of Merilyn in the last few months of her life. An additional thank-you, to all those that vistied and supported Merilyn through her final days.
Viewing hours will be held on Friday, December 8th between 10am and 12pm at the Independent Baptist Church located at 6110 NY-30, Indian Lake, NY 12842. Funeral service will begin at noon followed by the burial service at the Cedar River Cemetery 6709 NY-30 Indian Lake, NY 12842.
