I’ve just discovered this obituary of dear Maxine. She, and husband David, were great friends of mine for many years when I was in the television production arena in New York City. Though I lost contact with them gradually after I moved to California they were often on my mind. Maxine was such a vivacious person with a “knowing” disposition. I loved our conversations and being able to make her laugh. And she had a distinctive hearty laugh that still echoes in my head. My condolences to both Meredith and Lisa who I’m sure loved their parents very much.

Dear Meredith,

I just saw the obituary for your mother. I'm so sorry for your loss. I remember
your mother and father from the early days at the Lamplight Inn, and how much
fun they were. Your Mom was always colorful and we enjoyed talking with her.

Sincerely,
Linda and Gene Merlino

Meredith, I did not know your mother, but I have the pleasure of knowing you.  I dearly loved my Tess (formerly Mandy) --and still do, She is in heaven with my husband and her fur brothers and sister Jake, Ernie, Gertie Lou, Gus, and MaxCat. So you know your mother is in great company! You have given so very much happiness to the animals, and to the people who have adopted them. Your mother must have been a wonderful person, to have raised such a selfless giving animal protector and savior.  May God Bless you and keep you healthy. I am truly saddened for your loss.

I had the pleasure of taking care of Maxine for years when I was the Director of Nursing at The Pines at Glens Falls. I will always remember her as a vital class act who had the skin of a forty year old. My heartfelt condolences go out to Meredith and Lisa. You two always fought to make sure she was well taken care of, and she knew you loved her deeply. So sorry for your loss
