Long Lake
Mary L. Marcell, 95, of Route 28N, passed away Saturday afternoon, November 15, 2025, at her home.
Born on November 1, 1930, in Theresa, NY she was the daughter of the late Cassius D. and Anna (Mohrerr) Alton. She attended Theresa and Antwerp schools and graduated from Theresa High School in 1949 as valedictorian of her class.
Mary worked at Faichney (thermometer factory) in Watertown. She married Ernest L. Marcell on August 14, 1950. They were attended by Gerald and Margaret Desormeau. Her beloved husband died in 1996 after 46 years of marriage in Enid, OK.
Mary lived in Gouverneur for 8 years then moved to Maynard, MA and lived there for 23 years before moving to Enid, OK where she resided for 17 years before moving to Long Lake in 2000.
While she lived in Massachusetts, she was a member of the Women’s Club, active with Campfire Girls for 7 years. She was also active with the Red Cross. She ran the Canteens for the blood mobiles in the town. When she moved to Oklahoma, she became active with Mobile Meals and enjoyed this for 12 years. Mary was also a member of the. Eastern Star for over 50 years.
Besides her parents and husband, she was predeceased by a son, Christopher Marcell, brothers, Carlton Alton, Donald Alton and sisters Miriam Schell and Margaret Desormeau.
Survivors include one daughter who loved her mother dearly, Dianne (Jim) Waters of Long Lake and a granddaughter whom she adored, Emily Waters also of Long Lake.
In keeping with Mary’s wishes, there are no funeral services planned. Dianne will be planning a tea in her mother’s honor at a date and time to be announced.
