Martin Friedman Obituary

Long Lake

Martin “Marty” D. Friedman, 82, of Mountain Meadows Way, passed away suddenly, Monday, October 9, 2023, at Adirondack Regional Medical Center in Saranac Lake.

Born on September 12, 1941, in New York City, he was the son of the late Louis and Helen (Dragna) Friedman.

An entrepreneur at heart, Marty had his hand in various business enterprises throughout the years. He was the first to initiate an overnight delivery service, delivering important documents and medications.  After camping in the area for many years with his family, he and his wife, Janet, made the move to Long Lake in 2002.  They began Lakeside Knoshery and Long Lake Boat Tours, which they continued to run.  “Captain Marty” was a wonderful storyteller and tour guide on his boat.

In addition to his gift of public speaking and storytelling, he was an amazing writer.  He loved his dogs and was devoted to his family.  He was a kind and generous man who was always ready to lend a hand or lend helpful advice.

He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, Edwin Friedman.

Survivors include his loving wife, Janet Friedman; their children: Dayna (Patrick) Whitman of Atlanta, GA, Rachel (Erik) Lujbli of Greenwood Lake, Jennifer (Craig) Nadolny of Commack, Hayley (Wayne) Wiggins of Huntington Station, Meg Friedman of Virginia, Lesley (Adam) Friedman of Centerport; 11 grandchildren and his two dog “sons”, Fetcher and Cooper.

In keeping with Marty’s wishes, there are no calling hours or funeral services scheduled.
