John A. Been
John Alexander Been passed away suddenly on Friday July 26th, 2024; surrounded by his beloved brothers.
Born on February 4th, 1995; during a fierce snowstorm; to John J. Been and Peggy A. Been (LaPier) at Glens Falls Hospital. The baby brother to his sister Jacquelin R. Been and brother Eric J. LaPier. He resided with his family in Saratoga Springs for most of his life. John graduated from Saratoga Springs High School and F.W. Myers Center in 2013, completing courses in Heavy Equipment. Operating machinery had always been a passionate pastime for Johnny; helping family operate bulldozers and excavators as young as 7 years old. As a young man he used to spend summers with his Aunt Kathy, working with his cousin Jared, at Corinth Statuary. Always wanting to learn, Johnny became a jack of all trades, and loved teaching others what he knew. He worked in a variety of fields before landing a job he loved, with Saratoga Eagle in May of 2022. John was in charge of property maintenance for Saratoga Eagle, where he worked side by side with his best friends, who over the years, became nothing less than brothers; Dan-o, Daniel R. Wade Jr. and Woody, Eric J. Woodcock.
John resided in Middle Grove where he enjoyed life with his puppers Onyx and Lexi Lou, the light of his life. Johnny, as he was known by family and Been by friends, was a humble man. Enjoying life for the littlest of things it had to offer, he simply loved spending time with friends and family. Creating memories was his favorite hobby and he never missed a chance to make one. Johnny was happiest when camping, kayaking and particularly fond of bonfires with buddies and beers. He is known for his signature dance moves and quirky one-liners, often hollering out “Smoke the Tires!” He loved going for joyrides, bogging down every small town dirt road; blasting music from all genres, burning with his homies and eating at every sleazy diner he found along the way.
Johnny lived his life to the fullest; filling it with adventures that created lasting memories, friends, family, love and laughter. John was known by many; and to know John was to love John. His soul shone brightly through his hazel eyes, his energy welcoming and safe to all. His contagious smile lit up every room and his laughter would boom through the skies. His kindness was pure and his love genuine. Johnny, being the selfless man he was, would do anything to spread joy and ease any burden for everyone he loved. Time and time again. He left a lasting impression on anyone who met him and imprints on the hearts of all who were fortunate to be loved by him.
John is predeceased by both maternal and paternal grandparents, Bert O. LaPier, Margaret H. LaPier (White) of Corinth, NY. Arthur F. Been Sr, Lucille K. Been (Beattie) of Hadley, NY. Along with several loving aunts and uncles.
John is survived by his parents, John J. Been, Peggy A. Been (LaPier) of Saratoga Springs, NY; his brothers Eric J. LaPier (Amanda R. Jarabek) of Watertown, SD; Daniel R. Wade Jr. of Porter Corners, NY and Eric. J. Woodcock of Corinth, NY; his sisters Jacquelin R. Been of Saratoga Springs, NY; Samantha L. Shattuck of Porter Corners, NY; nephews Bailey A. LaPier and Skylar M. Valandra of Watertown, SD; and niece Shellby C. LaPier of Watertown, SD.
