Jay L. Gilbert, 91, of Gilbert Lane and lifelong resident of Hadley, passed away Monday morning, July 20, 2026, at Wesley Health Care Center, Saratoga Springs.

Born on June 26, 1935, in Hadley, he was the son of the late James Dudley and Daisy (Madison) Gilbert.  He served in the United States Army from 1955-1958.  Upon his honorable discharge from the service, he began a 39-year (and 2 month) career at International Paper in Corinth beginning in the finishing room, moving to the roll grinder, and retiring as shift mechanic.

He married Faith Brooks on September 27, 1958, at the First United Methodist Church in Corinth.  Faith passed away on March 4, 2024, following a 65-year marriage.

Jay was a model train dealer, coin dealer and collector.  He enjoyed hunting, fishing, and camping.  He was a member of the William J. Varney American Legion Post 862, Coopers Cave Coin Club, and a member of the Quarter Century Club at International Paper.

He was predeceased by his parents; his wife, Faith Gilbert; siblings: Albert Gilbert, Alma Winslow, Myrtle Aldrich, Joseph “Dudley” Gilbert, Edna Haskins, and Janet Waite.

Survivors include his children: Robert (Debra) Gilbert, William (Debbi) Gilbert, Timothy (Crystal) Gilbert, Mark (Denise) Gilbert, Andrew (Becky) Gilbert, Julie (Louie) Maurais, all of Hadley and Amy Reed of Dewitt, Iowa; 14 grandchildren; 12 great grandchildren; numerous nieces, nephews, and cousins.

In keeping with Jay’s wishes, there are no services scheduled.
