Janet C. Waite, 93, of Links Ave., passed away Wednesday morning, April 22, 2026 at her home.
Born on July 7, 1932 in Hadley, she was the daughter of the late James D. and Daisy (Madison) Gilbert. She was a graduate of Hadley Luzerne High School.
She married Carl W. Waite on July 26, 1950 in Stony Creek. Carl passed away on February 24, 2002. Together they enjoyed 51 years of marriage.
Janet had worked at Espy Manufacturing in Saratoga Springs for a short time and then began her career as a postal clerk for the US Postal Service first in Stony Creek and then in Lake Luzerne where she worked until her retirement in 1992.
She enjoyed knitting, sewing, ceramic, travel and spending the winter months in Venice, FL. She was a talented organ and piano player and played for the Stony Creek Wesleyan Church for many years. She later attended The First Presbyterian Church of Corinth and was a member of the Stony Creek Volunteer Fire Department Auxiliary.
She was predeceased by her parents, her husband, and siblings: Alma Winslow, Myrtle Aldrich, Edna Haskins, Joseph “Dudley” Gilbert, and Albert Gilbert.
She is survived by her children: Pamela J. Waite of Queensbury and Ronald (Pam) Waite of Hadley; grandchildren: Nicole (Kevin) Lashway, Ryan Waite and Joel Waite; great grandchildren: Kyle, Melissa, and Cailyn; one great great granddaughter, Emily; one brother, Jay Gilbert of Hadley; numerous nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Tuesday, April 28, 2026, from 4-6 p.m. at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.
A memorial service will immediately follow the visitation at the funeral home at 6 p.m.
Burial in Hadley Cemetery will be private.
