Isabelle Quirion Obituary

Queensbury

Isabelle Clara Quirion, beloved wife, Mom, sister, Nana, and friend passed away peacefully on June 9th, 2025, at the Nancy Dowd Hospice House in Gloversville, NY. Born in Sherbrooke, Quebec Province, Canada on June 6th, 1936, Isabelle had a challenging childhood which taught her determination and resilience. It was these characteristics that led her to improve her circumstance and graduate from high school with an associate’s degree in teaching.

Little did she know that her first teaching job at the early age of nineteen at Johnville Elementary School, Quebec, would forever change her life. It was there that she would meet the love of her life Jean Luc Quirion while teaching his siblings at a multi-grade schoolhouse. She would go on to marry Jean on August 17, 1957, and then move to Glens Falls, NY USA to support her husband’s career.

Together they would live in Corinth, NY and then eventually settle in Hadley, NY to raise their four children. Throughout her life Isabelle worked as a stay-at-home Mom but also took on various part-time jobs as she instilled a strong faith and a love of learning while bringing up her children. She was an accomplished seamstress creating many of her children’s clothes. She loved to cook and bake for her family and would either compete or judge in the family cookoff competition every Labor Day. She loved sports and games and was a fierce competitor when it came to bowling, cards, pétanque, shuffleboard or dominoes. She loved watching hockey, volleyball, women’s basketball and rooting for her beloved Kansas City Chiefs.

In retirement, Isabelle loved to exercise and dance. She regularly would “speed” walk every day that she could. She loved to dance. So much so, that she took it upon herself to teach line dancing to seniors at the Glens Falls Senior Center and The Landing Assisted Living facility in Queensbury. We know she is now dancing in heaven and setting up line dancing classes for the angels.

She is survived by her husband Jean Luc Quirion married for 67 years, her four children Richard (Colleen) Quirion of Schoharie; Carol (Pete Bjelica) Madeiros of Saratoga; Diane Powers of Lake Luzerne; Michelle (Gregg) Andonian of Milford, Mass; a sister Nicole Cadorette of Montreal, Canada; eleven grandchildren and five great grandchildren.  Isabelle was predeceased by her brother, George (Diane) Perry and her son-in-law Larry Madeiros.

A celebration of life memorial service is planned for a future date. Memorial contributions may be made in memory of Isabelle to: The Lawrence Madeiros Scholarship Fund PO Box 11 Mayfield, NY 12117 or to Mountain Valley Hospice & Palliative Care (MVHPC) 108 Steele Ave Gloversville, NY 12078 with a designation to The Nancy Dowd Hospice House in the memo line.
