Ida Winslow Ovitt, age 57, was placed in the hands of the Lord on August 1, 2026.  She fought a tough battle against clear cell ovarian cancer.  Throughout it all, she remained positive and wanted to make others feel loved.  She surrounded herself with God, family and many friends.

Born in Glens Falls Hospital, she was the youngest daughter of Floyd and Mary (Perkins) Winslow of Stony Creek.  She graduated from Hadley Luzerne School in 1987.  Ida worked for the United States Post Offices in Stony Creek and Athol for many years.  She loved helping the customers where she grew up and lived.

Ida was artistic and creative.  She enjoyed being with her scrapbooking friends and designing special cards for friends.  She enjoyed traveling to Cape Cod and taking trips on her motorcycle to North Carolina to visit her niece.  Music was a great love of her life.  She enjoyed dancing and one of her favorite things was going to the Stony Creek Rec Field to listen to various bands, although she was partial to the Stony Creek Band.

After her diagnosis with ovarian cancer, she created a Bucket List of things that she wanted to do: kayaking trip down the Hudson River, rafting on the Sacandaga, visits to Disney World, Nashville, and Dollywood.  Some new activities were taking a helicopter ride, snow shoeing and snowboarding.  She was invited to many “meet and greet” shows at the Charles Wood Theater with Kevin Richards. The greatest highlight was having members of the Hudson Falls Patriots and Jury Motorcycle Club come to her room at Glens Falls Hospital the night before she died.  She said she was “SO HAPPY”.  It was special for her because she was one of two to get a visit.  She thought it was a gift from God.

Besides her mother, Mary Winslow of Stony Creek, Ida is survived by her loving sons, Richard and Cameron Ovitt. They were the greatest love of her life.  Ida is also survived by her sisters: Elaine O’Neill of Stony Creek, Rosalie (William) Gill of Queensbury, Sarah Laustrup (Jim) Barber of Lake George, Susan Harrington of Stony Creek, and Melanie Haskell of Hadley.  She is also survived by several nieces, nephews and cousins.

Ida was preceded in death by her father, Floyd Winslow and her grandparents: Aldrich and Nancy Perkins of Hadley and Henry and Cassie Winslow of Stony Creek; her dogs, Bubba Jay and Jack who were the joy of her life also passed before her.

Our thanks go out to all the doctors involved in her care, Dr. Grubbs (retired), the Oncology staff and wonderful nurses on Tower 2 at Glens Falls Hospital.

Friends may call Tuesday, August 11, 2026, from 9:00 – 11:00 a.m.  at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.  Funeral services will begin at 11:00 a.m. at the funeral home.  After the service the family is inviting everyone to join them for a celebration of Ida’s life at the Hadley Park, Corlew Ave., Hadley also known as Samuel M. Smead Memorial Park. Turn at the intersection of Maple St. and Stony Creek Road.

Burial in Warrensburg Cemetery will be at 2:30 p.m.
