Harry E. Benoit, 97, of Harrisburg Road, passed away peacefully, Thursday morning, July 2, 2020 at his home.
Born on August 7, 1922 in Marlborough, Massachusetts, he was the son of the late Henry and Melina (LeBlanc) Benoit.
Harry served in the Army Air Force during World War II as a special vehicle operator and Carbine Rifle specialist. He served in Algeria-French Morocco, Naples-Foggia, Rome, Arno, Sicily, Southern France and Tunisia. He had earned the European-African-Middle Eastern Service Medal and the Good Conduct Medal.
Following his honorable discharge from the Army Air Force, he worked for Harley Davidson, General motors and Sperry Rand. He then began a 20-year career at New York City Sanitation Department, retiring in 1989. He then moved to Stony Creek permanently.
He married Elly Maag in 1995 in Florida.
Harry was an avid gun and shooting enthusiast. He also enjoyed hunting and in his early years, riding motorcycles.
He was predeceased by his parents and a brother, John Benoit.
Survivors include his wife, Elly Benoit; his children: Robert (rose) Benoit of Seminole, FL, Raymond (Terri) Benoit of Lake Luzerne and Kathleen Benoit of North Carolina; grandchildren: Robert Jr., Danielle and Melina; great grandchildren: Nicholas, Alexia and Desiree; his dear friends, Lee and Cheryl Hayes who were a great help to Harry.
In keeping with Harry’s wishes there are no calling hours scheduled.
Private burial will be in Knowlhurst Cemetery, Stony Creek.
