Gregory Ferguson, of Edinburg, NY, passed away suddenly on August 22, 2024 surrounded by his family, at the age of 62. Born on March 14, 1962, in Gloversville, NY, Gregory lived a life marked by dedication to his work and his community, being supportive, warm, and welcoming, and making people laugh.
Greg graduated from Northville Central School in 1980. In his younger years he learned he had a passion for cooking and worked many summers at local restaurants from the Twin Pines, Mary’s Place and the I-Go Inn. He began working at a truck stop as a line cook in Fonda, NY in the early 80’s, before taking a significant step in his career by purchasing and operating the Crossroads Diner. During this time, Greg also was a volunteer EMT with the Edinburg Volunteer Emergency Squad throughout the 80’s and 90’s. He ran the Crossroads diner until 1991, when his sister, Deborah Reynolds, opened the Flamingo Cafe in Northville, NY. Greg joined her there as a cook and continued until 2002, when the Flamingo Cafe closed. He then began working at another family diner owned by his Sister Carol Bowers and niece Jackie Nichols for the last 25 years, the Four Corners Diner, where he remained the cook until his passing. Greg’s passion wasn’t only cooking he loved to feed the birds, decorate the best looking Christmas Trees around and tend to his flower gardens.
Throughout his life, Greg faced many battles with courage, recently diagnosed with lung cancer, he faced the challenge head-on. He was deeply involved in the local community and known for his dedication to his craft and creating a warm, welcoming nature for anyone around him. He would do anything for anyone, friend or stranger, without a second or even first thought for his own well-being. He cared so deeply for his friends and his family. Whenever you stepped into the Four Corners Diner you could always count on a smile or hug from Greg. He always had a way to make you laugh or put a smile on your face if you were having a rough day.
