Indian Lake
Ernest L. Bennett, 71, of NYS Route 28, died Sunday morning, April 22, 2018.
Born on September 4, 1946 in Glens Falls, he was the son of the late Francis and Ruth (Davison) Bennett. He was a graduate of Indian Lake Central School and served as an infantry rifleman in the United States Marine Corp including a tour in Vietnam where his unit was awarded the Presidential Unit Citation.
He married Gail A. May on May 4, 1969 in Hague. Gail passed away on June 7, 2012 following 43 years of marriage.
Soon after his honorable discharge from the service, he returned to Indian Lake and began a long career working for the Town of Indian Lake. First at the Highway Department and then for over 30 years at the water department. Ernie had also operated the Abanakee Dam for over 30 years for the rafters.
Ernie enjoyed golfing, camping, boating, fishing and being on the lake. He was a member of the Parker Benton American Legion Post 1392.
He was preceded in death by his parents; three brothers, Donald Bennett, Jack Bennett, and Lee Bennett.
Survivors include his three sons: Scott (Stephanie) Bennett of Indian Lake, Bill Bennett and Ernest (Mya Seery) Bennett all of Fredericksburg, VA; grandchildren, Logan, Hayley, Kiley, Megan, Kassidy, Izaak and Jazmine; two sisters: Mary Jane Freeburn of North River, Linda Freeburn of Hudson Falls; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
