Lake Luzerne
Edward P. Costello, Jr., 75, of Vista Dr., passed away Saturday afternoon, February 22, 2025 at his home.
Born on December 23, 1949 in Manhattan, he was the son of the late Edward and Elizabeth (Schafer) Costello. Edward proudly served in the United States Marine Corps as a
M60 machine gunner during the VietNam War earning the National Defense Service Medal, Vietnam Service Medal with one star, Combat Action Ribbon, Vietnam Campaign Medal with device, Vietnam Cross of Gallantry with Palm and Frame, along with the Rifle Marksman Badge.
He married Avelina Jimenez on July 25, 1969 in the Philippines.
Upon his honorable discharge from the Marine Corps, Ed began a long career as an elevator mechanic for Schindler Elevator in New York City. Following his retirement, he and his family moved to Lake Luzerne.
He enjoyed fishing, music, and going to casinos playing the slot machines. He was a life member of the William J. Varney American Legion as well at V.F.W. in Hadley. His tremendous sense of humor will be sorely missed by all who knew and loved him.
He is survived by his devoted wife, Avelina; their children: Annie (Patrick) Horn of Lake Luzerne, Elizabeth (Shawn Murphy) Kenny of Hadley, and Edward (Deena) Costello, III of Lake Luzerne; seven grandchildren: Kristi Ann Shippee, Katie Mae Horn, Kimberlyn Horn, Patrick Kenny, Kayla Kenny, Jordanna Kenny, Edward Costello IV, Sara Murphy and Dillon Murphy; great grandchildren Steven Horn-Shippee, Cecelia Shippee, Paityn Horn-Flint, Corbin Horn-FlintTristan Horn-Hydock; two sisters: Elizabeth (Dave) Carman of City Island and Denise (Edward) Francis of Clifton Park; several nieces and nephews.
Friends may call Friday, March 7, 2025 from 10:30 to 11:30 a.m. at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.
A memorial service will follow the visitation at 11:30 a.m. at the funeral home.
Burial with military honors will be conducted at 1:30 Friday, March 7, 2025, at Gerald B.H. Solomon Saratoga National Cemetery, Schuylerville.
