Dr. James Bernard Bell, 95, passed away Wednesday, November 25, 2020 at the Pines of Glens Falls.
Born on August 8, 1925 in Glasgow, Scotland, he was the son of the late James Hunter Bell and Margaret McBride Bell. He was a graduate of St. Aloysius College in Glasgow, Scotland, and also Glasgow University, where he earned his medical degree in 1947. He practiced family medicine in Glasgow and also served in the British Merchant Marines as a ship’s doctor from 1951 to 1953.
He sailed to the U.S.A. aboard the RMS Queen Mary in 1953. He completed his Anesthesia residency at St. Francis Hospital in Hartford, CT.
Dr. Bell and Peggy L. Tomlinson were married in Port Chester, NY on April 14, 1955. They settled in Niskayuna, NY.
Dr. Bell practiced Anesthesiology at Ellis Hospital and St. Clare’s Hospital in Schenectady, Bellevue Hospital in Niskayuna and Glenridge Hospital (now Conifer Park) in Scotia.
He had many other hobbies and interests including family vacations, foreign travel, golf, skiing, photography, and reading.
Survivors include his wife, Peggy and sons, James H. (Colleen) Bell, Dr. Michael (Linda) Bell, Joseph G. (Beth) Bell, and John S. Bell and grandchildren, Courtney, Marissa, Connor, Brendan, Leah, Amanda, and Christopher.
In keeping with Jim’s wishes, there are no calling hours or funeral services scheduled.
