Master Chief Charles Lonzo Minke
Master Chief Charles Minke, US Navy, retired, age 82, of Newcomb, New York passed away on March, 14, 2025. A devoted husband, father, and loyal servant to his country, he will be deeply missed by all who knew him.
Charles Minke dedicated over 20 years of his life to serving in the United States Navy, achieving the rank of Master Chief Petty Officer. His career was marked by exceptional leadership, dedication, and an unwavering commitment to his fellow sailors and the nation. He was proud to have served with distinction, leaving a legacy of strength, integrity, and honor.
In retirement, Charles Minke found joy in spending time with his family, pursuing hobbies of photography, fishing, and kayaking. He had a profound admiration for Native American culture, which he embraced with deep respect and reverence throughout his life. His sense of duty and devotion to others extended far beyond his military service, and he was always ready to lend a helping hand or offer words of wisdom. He and his wife actively participated in the International Student program and hosted five students from the Far East. Anh from Hanoi, Vietnam returns often to visit and has become a daughter, a sibling, and is loved by the entire extended family.
He is survived by his beloved wife, Laurinda; his daughter, Tara; son, Shane; international daughter, Anh; two grandsons, a granddaughter, three great grandsons, two remaining sisters, Barbara and Sondra of Virginia and one deceased, Beatrice; plus a host of extended family and friends who were fortunate enough to know him. Master Chief Charles Minke’s life was marked by a deep sense of duty, loyalty, and an unwavering love for his family and country. As he now sails into the Heaven beyond, we bid him farewell with the Navy’s timeless blessing: “Fair sails and following seas.” May his journey be smooth
and his spirit find peace. His legacy of service, love, and respect will continue to guide those who remain behind, just as the sea always follows the steady course of the wind.
A memorial service will be conducted 11 a.m. Friday, March 21, 2025 at the Long Lake Wesleyan Church.
