Indian Lake
Bruce A. Lewis, 88, of Indian Lake, NY, passed away peacefully Monday morning, May 12, 2025, at Elderwood in North Creek.
Born on December 23, 1936, in Jersey City, NJ, he was the son of the late Alonzo W. and Adah L. (Brooks) Lewis. He was a 1954 graduate of Bergenfield High School.
He married Leila Meerman on September 9, 1961, in Bergenfield, NJ and bought their family home in Norwood, NJ where they raised their family.
Bruce worked for over 22 years at Cardinal Bag and Envelope in Saddle Brook, NJ, owned and operated Miracle Press & Stamp Company in Norwood, NJ, and worked as Buildings and Grounds Supervisor for Norwood Public School until his retirement in June of 1996. They then moved to Indian Lake in 1996 full-time to enjoy their retirement in the log cabin home built by family.
Bruce had a passion for hunting, woodworking, and tinkering. He was a lifetime member of the Allendale Rod and Gun Club and played a pivotal role in its foundation. He was also a lifetime member of the Norwood Fire Company, a member of the IL Snowarriors, Indian Lake / Blue Mountain Fish and Game Assoc., Indian Lake Ambulance Corps, and former Fire Commissioner of the Indian Lake Fire Department.
He is predeceased by his parents and a brother Frederick Briggs.
Survivors include his loving wife, Marie Leila Lewis; their children: Robert Lewis and his wife Geri of Lords Valley, PA, Steven Lewis and his wife Nichole of Oak Ridge, NJ, and LeeAnn Camarero and her partner Steve Zuelch of Dingman’s Ferry, PA; six grandchildren: Duncan, Daniel, Morgan, and Emma Lewis, Hunter and Jenna Zuelch.
The family extends their heartfelt thanks to the staff at Elderwood at North Creek for their exceptional professionalism and compassionate care of Bruce during his time there.
