Hadley
Irene A. (Jockers) Wood, age 85, of First Ave, Hadley and Davenport, Florida, died October 12, 2018 at Osceola Regional Medical Center, Kissimmee, Florida.
Born on March 12, 1933 in Jamaica, Long Island, NY she was the daughter of the late Adam and Edna (Kopel) Jockers. Mrs. Wood graduated from Saint Pascal Babylon grade school in St. Albans, Long Island, NY. She then came to Lake Luzerne, NY for a weeks vacation and decided to stay here to start high school. She was a graduate of Hadley Luzerne Central School class of 1951 where she had been the junior prom queen.
On January 19, 1952, she married her high school sweetheart, Douglas V. Wood of Hadley, NY. They were married in St. Albans, Long Island. Mrs. Wood worked as a hostess and waitress for many years at the Red Coach and 10 years at the Montclam in Lake George.
She also was in charge of the Hadley Playground for six years and worked for the Board of Elections for 20 years. She loved children and took care of many. She was very dedicated to her family and friends and enjoyed being with them. She loved her dogs, the late Chloe and Kassie. She loved dancing and dining out with her husband, family and friends.
Besides her parents, she was predeceased by four sisters, Ann Centerbar, Joan Leite, Rita Greer, Kathleen McCaw.
Survivors include her husband of 66 years, Douglas V. Wood; their two children, Diane Lee Schuh of Davenport, FL and Douglas Guy Wood and his life companion Linda DeSantis and her family of Lake Luzerne; several nieces and nephews.
In keeping with Irene’s wishes there are no calling hours or services scheduled.
Her family will have a private celebration of her life at a future date.
