Sabael
Eleanor King, 96, passed away Friday morning, August 31, 2018 at Elderwood at North Creek.
Born on June 30, 1922 in West Hoboken, NJ, she was the daughter of the late Louis and Agnes (Fliss) Zecha. “Ellie,” as her friends called her, graduated with honors from Emerson High School in Union City, NJ. She attended Berkley-Lewellan a business school and worked as a bookkeeper for Hercules Ship until 1946.
She married Beecher King on January 25, 1947 in North Bergen, NJ. They then moved to Indian Lake.
Mr. King died on February 6, 1995 following 48 years of marriage.
Eleanor raised her family and operated the Corner Variety Store in Indian Lake until its closing in the early 1970’s. She then operated Oak Hill Cottages in Sabael. Mrs. King volunteered at the Indian Lake Library where she was on the Board of Directors and a member of the Friends of the Library. She also was on the Indian Lake Central School Board and volunteered at the school. An avid reader, Ellie also enjoyed gardening, knitting, bird watching and sports. She was a longtime member of the United Methodist Church of Indian Lake.
She was predeceased by her parents; her husband Beecher King; a sister, Jean Stonley.
Survivors include her children: Virginia (John) Turner of East Haddam, CT, Stephen (Alice) King of Sabael, Dennis (Katherine) King of Greenfield Center; three grandchildren, Aaron (Erin) King, McKenzie (Jon) St. Clair, Caitlin (Patrick) Turner Laffan; step grandchildren: Jaimi, Lori, Shaun; Jared and Keri great grandchildren: Cale, Reed, Ryleigh, Evelyn, Logan and Finn; brothers-in-law, Howard Stonley and Joseph King; sister-in-law, Mary Jane Blanchard; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
Friends may call Sunday, September 16, 2018 from 12 Noon to 2 p.m. at Miller Funeral Home, 6357 NYS Rte. 30, Indian Lake.
Funeral services will immediately follow at 2 p.m. Sunday at the funeral home.
Private burial will be in Cedar River Cemetery, Indian Lake.
