Arthur S. Brewer, 94, of Maple St., passed away Thursday, June 14, 2018 at the Granville Center for Rehabilitation and Nursing, Granville.

Born on February 29, 1924 in Corinth, he was the son of the late Isaac and Isabel (Jowaiszas) Brewer. He was a 1942 graduate of Hadley-Luzerne Central School.  He served as a sergeant in the Army Air Corps during World War II.  Upon his honorable discharge from the service he enrolled in the NY School of Embalming and Restorative Arts in New York City, graduating in 1947. 

He married Constance Locke of Indian Lake on October 11, 1952 at St. Mary’s Church in Glens Falls. Mrs. Brewer passed away on December 12, 2010 following 57 years of marriage.

Art owned and operated Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., in Lake Luzerne and Brewer Wilton Memorials in Corinth for many years prior to his retirement. Among his other sideline careers were real estate sales, investment sales, and franchise owner for SportsPal Canoes.  In his younger years, he was a school bus driver for Hadley-Luzerne  Central School District.  He and his mother had operated a grocery store on Main Street in Luzerne. Earlier, Art had been employed by Rollman’s Store in Hadley.

His enjoyments included his work and restoring antique horse drawn hearses.

Art was a past member of the Hadley-Luzerne Central School Board, a charter member of the John E. Dignan Council 3271 Knights of Columbus, Corinth, and K of C Monsignor Dignan Assembly, past president of the Hadley-Luzerne Lions Club, Lake Luzerne Chamber of Commerce, and William J. Varney American Legion Post 862, Lake Luzerne. He was a communicant of Holy Mother and Child Parish, Lake Luzerne.

He was predeceased by his parents, his wife, Connie Brewer, and a sister, Vera Johnson.

Survivors include one daughter, Barbara Brewer (Mark) LaMere of Lake Luzerne; one son, James Brewer of Myakka City, Florida; three grandchildren, Jamie Brewer, Ryan Brewer and Lucinda Brewer; numerous nieces, nephews and cousins.

Friends may call Sunday 2-4 and 6-9 p.m. at Brewer Funeral Home, Inc., 24 Church St., Lake Luzerne.

A Funeral Mass will be celebrated 11 a.m. Monday at Holy Mother and Child Church (Luzerne site, 329 Lake Avenue) with Rev. Ken Swain, pastor, officiating.

Burial with military honors will be in St. Mary’s Cemetery, Corinth.

A reception will follow at Holy Mother and Child Parish’s site on Palmer Avenue in Corinth.

Contributions in Art’s memory may be directed to the Alzheimer’s Association, Northeastern NY Branch, 4 Pine West Plaza, Suite 405, Albany, NY 12205.  Alzheimer’s Association has been a favored charity of Art’s since the passing of his wife.
