Stony Creek
Aija L. Gogan, 89, a 46 year resident of Stony Creek, passed away Saturday morning, February 23, 2019 at Fort Hudson Nursing Home, Fort Edward.
Born on November 14, 1929 in Talsi, Latvia, she was the daughter of the late Alexander and Elma (Meikulis) Jansons. Aija moved to the United States in 1950 after 6 years as a refugee in Germany.
She had worked as a flight attendant for Pan American on flights to Europe. She later had a 19-year career at the United States Post Office in the Luzerne, Corinth, Warrensburg and Stony Creek offices. She retired in October of 1992. She attended the Presbyterian Church in Corinth for many years.
She married Donald Gogan on March 13, 1954 in Hicksville, NY. He passed away on Nov. 16, 1983 following 29 years of marriage.
Aija’s greatest enjoyment was her family. She loved her grandchildren, great grandchildren and shared her creativity with them all. She knitted, sewed, made wreaths and decorations, and gave generously to many.
A sister, Zeltite Pachulski predeceased her.
Survivors include her children: Debora (Gary) Wager of Easton, Donna (Curtis) Lemelin of Greenwich, Nancy (James) Trottier of Easton; Timothy Gogan of Stony Creek; brother,John Jansons of Westminster, Massachusetts; seven grandchildren; 22 great grandchildren; several nieces, nephews and cousins.
In keeping with Aija’s wishes, there are no calling hours or funeral services scheduled.
Graveside services will be in Knowlhurst Cemetery, Stony Creek in the spring.
