James F. Helenek, 82, of Northern Pines Road, died peacefully,
Tuesday morning, April 10, 2012 at St. Peter's Hospital.
Born on September 28, 1929 in Elmhurst, he was the son of Joseph
and Anna (Krupa) Helenek. He moved to Wilton as a young man.
Jim worked at the Saratogian and Dehn's Flowers. He later worked
in the parts departments at Bigsbee Motors, Saratoga Springs,
Trice-Juron Ford, Saratoga Springs, and Quaker Ford, Queensbury. In
his "retirement", Jim worked as a counter man at NAPA, Saratoga
Springs.
He married Olga Anna Biss on May 29, 1954. She died on December
24, 1959. He then married Dagmar M. Duell on July 7, 1961. She died
on March 12, 2012.
Jim took great pride in his cars, especially his 1937 Ford. He
had participated in numerous car shows. He enjoyed woodworking and
was a partner in STG Builders, Wilton. He also enjoyed helping on
his brother-in-law's farm in Bacon Hill, going to hunting camp in
Bethel, VT, cutting and bailing hay with his neighbor, and having
breakfast at the Triangle Diner.
Jim was affectionately known to his family and friends as
"Grinch'.
He was a past member and commissioner of the Maple Ave. Fire
Department #4, Greenfield Fire District.
He was predeceased by his parents; his first wife Olga A.
Helenek and second wife Dagmar M. Helenek; one sister, Eva Worth;
and a brother, Peter Helenek.
Survivors include three sons; James J. Helenek and his wife
Ellen of South Glens Falls; John Helenek of Wilton; Charles Helenek
and his wife Lisa of Troy; a sister, Irene Helenek of Saratoga
Springs; 11 grandchildren Jae (April) Helenek of Shelburne Falls,
MA, Christopher Helenek of Las Vegas, NV, Tiffany Helenek of
Shelburne Falls, MA; Katrina (Chris) Russell of Stillwater, and
Joseph Helenek of Schuylerville and their mother, Deborah of
Schuylerville; Andrew Helenek, Joshua Helenek and Maggie Helenek
all of Troy; Christie (Kevin) DeLuca of East Hampton, MA, Seth
Guistimbelli and his companion Niki Rossi of Saratoga Springs,
Jessica (Jalyn) Alexander of SanDiego, CA; 13 great grandchildren,
Ava, Lilly, Piper, Crimson, Heidi, Simon, Christopher, Haley,
Nathan, Katie, Ellura, and Jalyn; several nieces, nephews and
cousins.
In accordance with Jim's wishes, there are no calling hours
scheduled.
Graveside services will be 11 a.m. today in St. Peter's
Cemetery, Saratoga Springs.
